Arequipa - Base Camp
We will pick you up directly at your hotel and then we will start by going to our office in order to equip you for the ascent. We will then take the road towards Pampa Cañahuas located on the back side of the Chachani.
After about 3 hours we will arrive at the beginning of our itinerary. Your guide will give you some explanations about the day’s walk and the next day’s ascent.
You will then walk 2 hours to the base camp located at 5200m of altitude. The trail is relatively simple for this first day, mostly flat and some progressive climbs.
We will take our meal at the base camp and have the afternoon free to rest and prepare for our departure in the night.

Base Camp - Chachani - Arequipa
Today we’ll get up at 2:00 in the morning. After checking everyone’s equipment and the condition of the whole group we will have a hot and energetic breakfast.
We will then set off for a long ascent to our main objective: the summit of Chachani at 6057m altitude, from which point you can enjoy an incredible panorama of the Coropuna, the summit of the Ampato, the Hualca Hualca or the still active Sabancaya volcano. You will also be able to contemplate the Misti, the Ubinas and the city of Arequipa.
The ascent lasts on average 6 hours (duration may vary according to the physical condition of each person). Although it is essential to be in excellent physical condition to embark on this adventure, the route will not require any particular technical skills (no ice climbing, no ropes, …).
Considered as a great hike at high altitude, the success of your experience and your arrival or not at the summit will depend mainly on your acclimatization and your reaction to the altitude.
After some time at the summit we will start our descent to the base camp. This will take us about 3 hours. Back at the base camp we will take some time to recuperate from our efforts and eat something before getting all our equipment and returning to our vehicle (2-3 hours more).
The return trip will take us 3 hours as on the outward trip. We will drop you off at your hotel when we arrive in the white city of Arequipa.
End of our services on our return to Arequipa.

Tourist season
The climate varies greatly according to the regions travelled through. From April to November, the sky is clear, although light rains are always possible. In altitude, it is pleasant during the day and cold at night. So bring warm clothes, even if you can walk around in a T-shirt during the day. Beware of the sun, which is strong at high altitudes, and bring a hat, sun cream and sunglasses.
Customs formalities
No visa is required for stays of less than 90 days. You must travel with a passport that is still valid for 6 months after your stay.
Health
When visiting high altitude areas, adverse effects such as headaches, nausea, insomnia and fatigue affect some people. However, the trip is designed to allow our body to adapt gradually (increase in red blood cells).
All major cities have modern private clinics with care comparable to what we have in Europe. However, you have to pay on the spot and then ask for reimbursement from your health insurance company.
We advise you to check whether your insurance covers medical costs in the countries you visit and if not, to seek reimbursement. Repatriation insurance is compulsory.
Currency / Credit Cards
Dollars and euros are accepted in the shops of the big cities. There are exchange houses everywhere. However, it is better not to carry large sums of money with you.
Credit cards are accepted in all ATMs (visa, mastercard, diners, american express). The commission of the bancomat is between 5 and 10USD.
Tips
In the service sector, it is normal to leave a tip when you are happy with the service. Between 5 and 10% of the value of the service is usual.
Physical preparation
Whenever you travel, remember to keep fit. Even for “Discovery” trips, by preparing yourself physically you will adapt more easily to the altitude and enjoy your discoveries.
For trekking trips, develop your endurance by running or practicing your endurance several times a week.
