Stay in the Peruvian Central Andes

Magnificent discovery of the Central Andes of Peru! After visiting Lima, the City of Kings, and its region we will take the famous Tintin train linking the Peruvian capital to Huancayo. We will then pass through breathtaking natural sites such as the pools of Millpu while immersing ourselves in the history of the Andes in Ayacucho, Vilcashuaman or Andahuaylas. We will end the trip in the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco.

Night in Lima

Today, you will discover the Peruvian capital through gastronomy. We will start with the Museum of Gastronomy in the center of Lima before going to the big market of San Isidro to discover the typical products of the Peruvian kitchen. Afterwards, a mini cooking class will be waiting for us to prepare our own CEVICHE and PISCO SOUR. We will finish with an excellent coffee in the Barranco district before returning to the hotel. In the evening, weather permitting, we will go to the “Parque de la Reserva” to enjoy the spectacle of the illuminated fountains of this unique place in the capital at nightfall.

Lima - Huancayo

We embark on the famous train linking Lima to Huancayo in the Andes. This train, notably referenced by Hergé, crosses the Andean passes, up to 4’800m. of altitude, crossing the highest railway line in the world in the 20th century. The landscapes crossed are impressive, from tunnels to bridges crossing vertiginous gorges while discovering lagoons and superb Andean villages.

Important : As train departures only take place a few times a month, it is essential to plan your trip in advance and to consult us about the dates of your trip so that we can be on site on the day of the train’s departure. In case you are unfortunately unable to be present at one of the train departures, there are still many ways to reach Huancayo from Lima through the superb Yauyos reserve that we will be able to offer you.

Huancayo - Huancavelica

We leave early this morning to reach the city of Huancavelica. After settling down at the hotel we will leave in the afternoon to the thermal baths of Secssachaca for a moment of relaxation.

Huancavelica - Ayacucho

We leave early this morning to reach the city of Ayacucho, historical city for its battle that gave Peru independence from the Spanish crown. We will get there at the end of the day after a long day’s drive.

Visit to the ceramics village of Quinua, and then to the Pampa de Ayacucho, where in 1824 the historic battle of Ayacucho took place, definitively sealing the independence of South America.

We’ll leave early in the morning for Vilcashuaman. We will cross a forest of Puya Raimondi, the largest flower in the world! We will then visit the Inca Intihuatana resting place. We will finally reach Vilcashuaman, the second largest Inca city after Cusco. This archeological center shelters notably Inca pyramids.

At 3 hours from Ayacucho is a natural wonder: the swimming pools of Millpu. We will walk in this magical environment and walk in the middle of a canyon while having the opportunity to swim in natural turquoise coloured pools.

Ayacucho - Andahuaylas

Transport this morning to Andahuaylas. After 6 hours of driving, we will settle down at the hotel and the rest of the day will be free.

Superb day in the Andahuaylas region. After visiting the city, we will go to the Wari de Sondor ruins, where we will take an easy one and a half hour walk to the Pacocha lagoon.

Andahuaylas - Limatambo

Today we leave for a long day of transition that will take us from Andahuaylas to Limatambo, a village generally known for its avocado and fruit tree plantations. On the way we will stop at the “Piedra de Saywite”, a historical element of the Inca period whose history we will explain to you on the spot.

Limatambo - Chonta - Cusco

After breakfast we will head towards the small village of Chonta, a place that is somewhat difficult to access but from which we will start a short walk that will take us to different viewpoints overlooking the Apurimac canyon, home to many condors! With a bit of luck we will be able to observe the lords of the Peruvian sky before returning to our vehicle and taking the road to Cusco where we will arrive at the end of the day. On the way to the ancient capital of Tawantinsuyo, we will stop again at the Inca site of Tarawasi.

Please note: This trip is presented over 14 days, but for those with a little more time, it is quite possible to see from Cusco for an extension of several days allowing you to discover Cusco, the Sacred Valley of the Incas and Machu Picchu or to go on one of the many treks that the region has to offer.

Tourist season

The climate varies greatly according to the regions travelled through. From April to November, the sky is clear, although light rains are always possible. In altitude, it is pleasant during the day and cold at night. So bring warm clothes, even if you can walk around in a T-shirt during the day. Beware of the sun, which is strong at high altitudes, and bring a hat, sun cream and sunglasses.

Customs formalities

No visa is required for stays of less than 90 days. You must travel with a passport that is still valid for 6 months after your stay.


When visiting high altitude areas, adverse effects such as headaches, nausea, insomnia and fatigue affect some people. However, the trip is designed to allow our body to adapt gradually (increase in red blood cells).

All major cities have modern private clinics with care comparable to what we have in Europe. However, you have to pay on the spot and then ask for reimbursement from your health insurance company.

We advise you to check whether your insurance covers medical costs in the countries you visit and if not, to seek reimbursement. Repatriation insurance is compulsory.

Currency / Credit Cards

Dollars and euros are accepted in the shops of the big cities. There are exchange houses everywhere. However, it is better not to carry large sums of money with you.

Credit cards are accepted in all ATMs (visa, mastercard, diners, american express). The commission of the bancomat is between 5 and 10USD.


In the service sector, it is normal to leave a tip when you are happy with the service. Between 5 and 10% of the value of the service is usual.

Physical preparation

Whenever you travel, remember to keep fit. Even for “Discovery” trips, by preparing yourself physically you will adapt more easily to the altitude and enjoy your discoveries.

For trekking trips, develop your endurance by running or practicing your endurance several times a week.
