Cultural encounters on Lake Titicaca

Llachón

The community of Llachón is located on the Capachica Peninsula, on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Stays are organized around local families, allowing you to observe their daily life. The days are shaped by agriculture, livestock farming, and fishing. You will meet charming communities who will show you what it is like to live on the shores of a lake at an altitude of over 3,800 meters.

Amantani

The island of Amantaní is located in the center of Lake Titicaca and is accessible only by boat.
The population is predominantly Quechua, and the island still operates on a collective basis. Mutual aid, work, maintenance, and hospitality—everything is shared among the island’s different communities. This allows for a fair redistribution of tasks and income.
You will have the opportunity to hike up to the island’s sacred hills—Pachatata and Pachamama—which offer exceptional viewpoints, especially at sunset. Pachatata is associated with masculinity in Andean cosmovision, while Pachamama corresponds to femininity and Mother Earth.
These two hills play a central role in the organization and ceremonies of the island.

Uros

The Uros, the community settled on the famous floating islands built from totora reeds, live near the city of Puno. These unique artificial islands rely on a specific construction and maintenance technique tied to the harvesting of these reeds.
The inhabitants, who speak Quechua or Aymara, will show you their lifestyle, their daily organization, and how these floating islands are built.

Capachica Peninsula

The Capachica Peninsula, on the northwestern shore of Lake Titicaca, brings together several villages. The stays offered here are authentic and organized around homestays in quiet, uncrowded environments, where daily life remains tied to agriculture, fishing, and the lake. In Paramis or Escallani, the experiences focus on walking, boat trips, agricultural activities, and exchanges with local families. The accommodations are simple, but the hospitality is extraordinary. You will feel like part of the family from the moment you arrive at Venancio’s, Balbino’s, or R’s home. The entire peninsula offers a gradual and human approach to Lake Titicaca, rooted in meaningful connections, shared time, and respect for local realities
