Practical guide

This brief practical guide aims to answer your initial questions. Please contact us so we can address all your inquiries and help you organize your trip.

Photographing with Respect

While photography is generally welcome, when visiting communities or individuals, it is essential to ask for permission before taking a photo, respecting their privacy and culture. In accordance with image rights and privacy standards, please avoid taking photographs of children.

Local Currency and Transactions

The official currency in Colombia is the Colombian Peso (COP). Card payments are accepted in major cities and tourist areas, but cash remains essential in villages, markets, and more remote regions. Using the local currency for your purchases from artisans and small businesses—with measured and respectful negotiation—helps support a fairer and more sustainable local economy.

Acclimatization and Altitude

Several Andean cities, such as Bogotá, are situated at around 2,600 meters (8,530 feet) in altitude. A short adaptation phase allows you to better enjoy your stay, especially during physical or cultural activities.

Living Culture and Diversity

Colombia is distinguished by its vast cultural diversity, including Afro-Colombian, Andean, and indigenous heritage. Respecting traditions, music, local languages, and communities is essential for a sincere immersion.

Formalities (Passport and Visa)

A passport valid for at least six months after entry is required. For the majority of French-speaking travelers, no visa is necessary for short-term tourist stays.

Ethical Commitment

Pasión Andina guarantees fair compensation for our guides and local collaborators. While tipping is a common practice in the industry for exceptional service, travelers are encouraged to act according to their own ethical conscience rather than out of obligation.

Seasons

Colombia can be visited all year round. The most pleasant periods are from December to March and from July to August, with lower rainfall—ideal for exploring the Andes, the Coffee Region, and the Caribbean coast.

Health and Prevention

Basic vaccinations are recommended. The Yellow Fever vaccine is advised for certain tropical and Amazonian regions, depending on the itinerary.
