Tayrona Park: jungle and wild beaches

Tropical Jungle

The jungle of Tayrona Park is traversed by marked trails crossing a dense vegetation and under a hot climate. Several paths cross this forest, each leading you toward a paradisiacal beach. You will need to take your time to avoid overexertion because the elevation gain is intense, but this pace will also allow you to calmly observe the wildlife living here. Monkeys frequently swing between the branches, and the sound of cracking wood will give you a clue to their location.
Blue lizards, geckos, and iguanas are among the small animals that scramble under the leaves as soon as they feel your approaching footsteps; so take your time to look around you, as surprises can appear at any moment.

Protected beaches

Most of the beaches accessible from the main entrances feature strong currents and powerful waves, making swimming quite dangerous at spots like Arrecifes or Brava.
In contrast, a few areas are suitable for swimming, such as La Piscina, a small lagoon protected by coral reefs.
Cabo San Juan is the park’s most iconic and visited beach, prized for its fine sand and twin bays framed by palm trees. However, its beauty attracts large crowds, and the lack of privacy can be surprising. Several other lesser-known, calmer beaches allow you to relax and enjoy snorkeling. There, you will have the chance to glimpse numerous aquatic species—each more beautiful and colorful than the last—swimming right past your mask.
